ASBURY PARK MAYOR’S WELLNESS COMMITTEE MEMBER RECEIVES NEW JERSEY
HEALTH CARE QUALITY INSTITUTE “CHAMPION OF HEALTH AWARD”

Award Recognizes Critical Drivers of Health and Wellness in Communities

12/15/20, Asbury Park, NJ – The New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute Mayors Wellness Campaign (MWC) has awarded the 2020 Champion of Health Award to Allison Cerco, a member of the Asbury Park Mayor’s Wellness Committee since 2017. Cerco serves as the Community Outreach Coordinator for Hackensack Meridian Health.

The MWC is a statewide community health initiative of the Quality Institute in partnership with the New Jersey State League of Municipalities. The MWC provides evidence-based tools and guidance to mayors and community leaders to help their residents achieve more active, healthier lifestyles and to improve the health and wellness of their communities. Over the past 14 years, the MWC has grown to include over 400 participating communities.

The inaugural MWC Champion of Health Award was created to recognize the people who are critical drivers of health and wellness in their communities. Mayors throughout the state nominated community leaders who are passionate about improving the lives of residents.

“Allison represents an important partnership between municipalities and health systems throughout the state. It is through these partnerships that communities can improve access to quality care and education for residents,” says Mayor John Moor, “Nominating Allison for the “Champion of Health Award” was an easy choice – she consistently goes above and beyond in organizing and supplementing our programming. Her dedication and positive attitude make her an invaluable member of the committee.”

“Allison has helped organize local events benefiting our residents such as incorporating health awareness speakers into community walking events, fitness in the park events, and senior health fairs,” said Deputy City Manager and Mayor’s Wellness Committee Chair Michael Manzella, “She was also a driver in bringing mobile health screening to our MWC events providing critical access to healthcare to the Asbury Park community.”

“We’re proud to recognize community members such as Allison Cerco. At the MWC, we know this work would not be possible without the dedication of the individuals moving the MWC and its initiatives forward in each community,” said Julie DeSimone, LSW, program officer for the MWC, “The success of the Mayors Wellness Campaigns relies on leaders in New Jersey towns and cities who step up and partner with us to share great programming to strengthen the health and wellbeing of their communities.”
