[ARCHIVED] ESTC "Remember Me" Tree Planting Project

ESTC Remember Me

A message from the ESTC:

The City of Asbury Park has been honored to be an Arbor Day Foundation “New Jersey Tree City” for 17 years. Earning this designation and keeping our City’s tree canopy vibrant relies on the resources of the Environmental Shade Tree Commission (ESTC), the Department of Public Works (DPW) and all its residents.

In order to replace lost trees and plant new ones in needed areas, the ESTC launched a new major tree planting project in 2020 called “Remember Me” honoring an event (birthday, anniversary, bar/bat mitzvah, baptism, etc.) or in memory of a special person in one’s life. The ESTC will begin prepping and planting 15 young trees this weekend and into October.

Participants are invited to collaborate with the ESTC to select the species of tree (Yoshimo Cherry, Eastern Redbud, Dwarf Weeping Snow Fountain Cherry) as well as the site of its planting (Sunset Lake, Wesley Lake, Deal Lake Drive). They also are invited to help the ESTC volunteers plant the tree.  Each tree will be fitted with a 20-gallon water bag to ensure its development for 2 years.

A “Remember Me” tree costs approximately $225.00. To purchase a tree for the “Remember Me” tree planting tree, contact Tom Pivinski at iksnivip@aol.com for further information.
