Main Street (NJ Route 71) was recently reconstructed by the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) to implement a “road diet” in order to improve traffic, bicycle, and pedestrian safety through the City of Asbury Park. During construction of that project, most of the existing trees along Main Street were removed to accommodate utility relocations and sidewalk reconstruction.
As part of the on-going Federal Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant to provide streetscape improvements along Main Street and Deal Lake Drive, the City of Asbury Park is proposing to install more than 100 new street trees as well as new benches and decorative bicycle racks at various locations along Main Street to beautify the roadway. Preliminary design plans were presented to the community in June 2022.
This meeting is being held to present the final streetscape designs and construction plans. The community is invited to attend and review plans. Members of the Project Team and City staff will be on hand to answer questions. Following the meeting, the presentation will be available on the City’s website through 9/14/23 with opportunity to provide feedback.
