Angela Ahbez-Anderson, in 2011 was elected to the Asbury Park Board of Education. In 2012-2013 she served as the Board President. Under her leadership she led the charge to appoint Dr. Lamont Repollet, who became the Superintended of Schools. Later Commissioner of the Department of Education and newly appointed President of Kean University.

In 2016 Angela was re-elected to the Asbury Park Board of Education and has served as President for five terms. Under her leadership Angela has unified a once divided and dysfunctional board. By respecting and valuing all member’s opinions, giving all the opportunity to be seen, heard and work together to resolve any problems. As a result, the once dismal governance score of 47% incrementally improved surpassing the required score of 80% to a resulting score of 95% in 2021 her last year in service. Throughout her Presidency under her leadership the graduation rate increased, the dropout rate decreased. As President of the Board Angela initiated the idea of offering an Academy Program at the Asbury Park high school. As a result, the high school currently offers a State certified Allied Health Program, an Engineering and Business Program. In addition, three cohorts have graduated from Dream Academy, receiving their Associate Degree from Brookdale Community College before receiving their high school diploma. 

Angela is passionate about empowering women, teens and girls reach their full potential. She has developed several personal development programs. Rebuilding Me a program designed for women living in the public housing sector. As their mentor she encouraged them through action-oriented activities to work towards self-sufficiency. She designed and implemented a public speaking program which acclimated into an oratorical pageant. She implemented an after-school program titled P.R.I.N.C.E.S.S. for elementary girls attending both public and catholic schools which developed confidence and character. 

Angela is the Chairwoman of the Asbury Park Democrats, the Vice President of the Asbury Park Library Trustee, and Commissioner of the Asbury Park Recreation.

Angela is and has been the voice for radio and television commercials. A former television News Anchor and reporter. She is a mother and an adoptive parent. She is married and lives in Asbury Park with her husband Calvin Anderson.

In 2019 Senator Vin Gopal awarded her the Distinguished 2019 Public Servant Award in honor of Women’s History Month. She is the recipient of the Rosa Parks Legacy Award in appreciation and recognition of her unselfish devotion and service to the people of both Asbury Park and Neptune Cities.
