Our Challenging Times

Asbury Park is indeed a very special place. Much like our founder over 130 years ago, James A. Bradley, we stand upon a moment of great opportunity and challenge. It is with our heads held high that we continue the hard work of building upon our hopes and implementing a vision of a strong, united Asbury Park. For many years we weathered the cold winds of an economic winter, holding steadfast to our belief that the springtime of prosperity would once again bless our City. That time has come as we have witnessed growth across our neighborhoods and our business communities. We stand certain that the way forward depends on us working together to build One Asbury Park!

We have seen much progress as longtime and new residents have joined together in the hard work of renewal in our City. Progress can be seen in every part of our City. The Springwood Avenue & Main Street Redevelopment Plans, Renewal on the Waterfront, the NPP / Ridge & Bangs Avenue communities and Strategic Development Initiatives in neighborhoods throughout the City. The citizens of Asbury Park have put forth great dedication and effort toward reestablishing our City as the "Jewel of The Jersey Shore". While there is certainly much more work to be done, Asbury Park is a strong and united community ready for the challenge!

We must protect and extend the economic growth that has occurred over the past few years. It is our priority to continue the modernization and improved efficiency of city services, ensure the development of alternate revenues that help lessen the burden carried by taxpayers and continue to provide employment and affordable housing opportunities for residents. The way forward may at times be difficult. However, if we commit ourselves to work together, employ honest efforts and judgment, and bring innovation to government we can overcome any challenge and keep Asbury Park moving forward.

Our City has a unique history, character and charm. We celebrate diversity as the strength from which we can build a 21st century Asbury Park. A City where everyone is welcome and is afforded the opportunity to live, work or visit. We invite you to join us here, in our City by the sea, to help us make history again!
